Sport Performance Support Bursary 2027

1. General Application Conditions

  1. 1.1 — Sports Performance Support bursaries are only available to students registered for full-time study at the University of Pretoria.
  2. 1.2 — Applications must reach TuksSport no later than 31 July each year. No applications will be considered after this date.
  3. 1.3 — Any incorrect and/or incomplete information will lead to the immediate cancellation of the application.
  4. 1.4 — Applications should be acknowledged within three weeks of submission. Applicants must follow up if no acknowledgement has been received.
  5. 1.5 — Sport-specific enquiries should be directed to the relevant TuksSport code manager via the Club Contact Directory.
  6. 1.6 — A bursary will be awarded in one sporting code only per student, per annum.

2. Terms and Conditions of Award

  1. 2.1 — Recipients must sign a written contract annually with the University of Pretoria.
  2. 2.2 — There is no automatic renewal. Annual re-application is required.
  3. 2.3 — Re-award evaluation considers academic performance, sporting performance, training attendance, and programme commitment.
  4. 2.4 — Annual review may result in reduction, non-renewal, or cancellation based on academic or sporting underperformance.
  5. 2.5 — If a recipient cancels their studies, the full amount must be refunded to the University.
  6. 2.6 — Non-compliance with contractual agreements renders bursaries refundable.
  7. 2.7 — Failed studies result in no re-allocation and refund obligations.
  8. 2.8 — Applicants under 18 require a legal guardian's signature.
  9. 2.9 — Verbal offers are only valid with written official confirmation from the relevant club.

3. Criteria for Awarding

  1. 3.1 — TuksSport club prioritisation is considered in the awarding process.
  2. 3.2 — Athlete scarcity in specific positions or events may be taken into account.
  3. 3.3 — USSA and Varsity competition performance is considered.
  4. 3.4 — International rankings may be factored into the evaluation.
  5. 3.5 — South African senior and junior rankings are considered.
  6. 3.6 — Discretionary recommendations from the relevant club may be included.
